SERVICE ADVISORY FOR NIKON EN-EL3 LI-ION BATTERIES

[ 3 June 2014 ]

UPDATED

[ 19 JANUARY 2022 ]

Thank you for choosing Nikon for your photography needs.

Nikon has initiated a voluntary recall and replacement program for applicable EN-EL3 rechargeable Li-ion batteries since our announcement in 2005. While the program offered replacement with EN-EL3e batteries, we will continue to accept the return of EN-EL3 batteries for a refund when the stock of EN-EL3e batteries is fully depleted.

UPDATED

[ 6 DECEMBER 2005 ]

Thank you for choosing Nikon for your photography needs.

  1. On November 8, 2005, we announced a voluntary recall and replacement program for certain Rechargeable EN-EL3 Li-ion Batteries. However, it has become clear that some applicable lot numbers were omitted in that announcement.
  2. The Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL3 is a lithium-ion battery for use with Nikon D100, D70, D70S, and D50 digital-SLR cameras. Among these 4 models, it is supplied with purchase of the D100, D70, and D50. In the interest of our customers' safety, we have, as mentioned earlier, decided to implement a voluntary recall and replacement program.
  3. Customers with recalled batteries should request a replacement battery as indicated below.
  4. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this issue may cause you.

STEP 1 : IDENTIFY AFFECTED EN-EL3 BATTERY

If your EN-EL3 battery has a production lot number beginning with 44AX, 46AX, 47AX, 48AX, 49AX, 4AAX, 4BAX, 4CAX, 51AX, 53AX or 54AX.

Where "X" refers to the last alphabet/numeric in the production lot number. Please enter your 4 digit production lot number in the form below to check if your battery was affected.

Please enter your 4 digit production lot number and click on SUBMIT. Do not use "ENTER" button to submit.

The EN-EL3 production lot numbers can be found in the centre groove on the bottom (surface covered by the terminal cover) of the battery (tilt the battery so that the light shines directly on the groove to see the lot number). Please refer to the illustration above.

Note: If the production lot number of your EN-EL3 does not begin with any of the first three digits shown above or is not among those in the list of recalled lot numbers, or if your rechargeable battery is an EN-EL3a or an EN-EL3e, your battery is not affected by this recall.

STEP 2 : REQUESTING FOR REPLACEMENT EN-EL3 BATTERY

If you own one of the affected EN-EL3 batteries, you may wish to visit our Nikon Authorised Service Facility for a one-to-one replacement. Do not attempt to return the affected lithium battery via airmail as it will not be compliant with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) regulations.

Do take note that only original Nikon EN-EL3 battery that is within the affected production lot number will be entitled for one-to-one replacement.
