Thank you for choosing Nikon products. Below are instructions for downloading wallpaper for your digital camera monitor.
 
Follow the instructions below to Nikon digital camera wallpaper.
 
  1. Preparation
    Required equipment for downloading wallpaper

    Instructions for downloading new wallpaper for your digital camera from the Nikon website
    •These instructions are given using Windows XP.
  3. Copying wallpaper

These instructions are given using the Nikon D40.
 
Warning
  • When new wallpaper is installed, the previously used wallpaper is erased. Be sure to make a backup copy of the previously used wallpaper before making any changes.
  • When an SD memory card is formatted, all data on the card are deleted. Be sure to save all important data on your computer or another memory device before formatting.

Operating environment • Hard disk: 5MB free space or more

1 Preparation


The following items are necessary for downloading wallpaper images for your digital camera.
  • Camera body
  • USB cable UC-E4
  • One of the following power sources:
    Fully charged rechargeable Li-ion battery EN-EL9
    Optional AC adapter EH-5 and AC adapter connector EP-5
  • Nikon approved SD memory card
  • Camera instruction manual

2 Downloading wallpaper and confirming files


The following instructions explain how to download wallpaper images using the “Nature” category as an example
  1. Create a new folder on the hard drive.
    Right click on the Windows desktop, then select “New” and “Folder” to create a new folder.
    Give the folder an appropriate name.

  2. Click on the “Download for Windows” button on the “Nature” category page to download wallpaper images to the folder you have created as explained in Item 1 above.

    Be sure to click “Save” when the following dialog box appears.



  3. Decompress the downloaded exe file.
    Double click the downloaded file (nature.exe) to decompress.
       
    When the file is decompressed, the image folder (101NCWAL) will be created.

3 Copying wallpaper images


To make copies of images on the SD memory card, connect the camera to the computer using a USB cable.
 
Be sure to use the AC adapter EH-5 and AC adapter connector EP-5, or a fully charged Li-ion rechargeable battery EN-EL9.
 
  1. Turn the camera off, insert the SD memory card into the camera’s memory card slot, and turn the camera on.

  2. Format the SD memory card.
    Press the button on the camera, and choose “Format memory card” in the Setup menu.
    When the format memory card screen appears, select “Yes” to format the memory card, and click “OK” to start formatting.


  3. Choose a USB option for connection to a computer and select “Mass Storage”.
    Press the button on the camera, and choose “USB” in the Setup Menu, and select “Mass Storage.”

  4. Turn the camera off. Connect the camera to the computer using the USB cable.

  5. Turn the camera on*.
    • For computers that have PictureProject software installed.
    Depending on which OS you are using, the PictrueProject Transfer will start automatically. Click the “Cancel” button to exit the software.
    * The “Removable Disk” dialog box may appear depending on the Windows XP settings. If it does, click "Cancel".
  6. Copying wallpaper images.
    Go to the “Start” menu and click “My Computer.” The “Removable Disk (F:)”* drive icon will appear in the “My Computer” window.
    Double click the “Removable Disk (F:)”* icon to display the “DCIM” folder.
    *The drive name “Removable Disk (F:)” may differ depending on the computer being used.
    Drag the decompressed folder named “101NCWAL” to the “DCIM” folder to copy.
     
      When copying is completed, open the “DCIM” folder to check contents.

  7. Terminate the connection.
    Refer to your camera instruction manual to terminate the connection to the computer.

    Warning
    • Be sure to make copies of wallpaper images to “DCIM” folder on the SD memory card. If they are copied in another location, the camera cannot recognize these wallpaper images.
    • The number of available frames on the SD memory card will decrease after the wallpaper images have been saved on the card.

4 Installing the wallpaper.


1 Turn the camera on.
   
2 Press the button on the camera. Choose “All” in the “Playback folder” in the Playback menu.
     
3 Choose “Select wallpaper” in the “Info display format” in the Setup menu.
     
4 Choose an appropriate image in the “Select wallpaper” screen. Press “OK” to decide.
     
5 Select “Wallpaper” in the “Digital Vari-Program” or “P, S, A, M” in the “Info display format”. Then press “OK”
     
6 Press the button to check if the wallpaper selected has been correctly added to the monitor.
     
 
Wallpaper installation is now completed.

2 Downloading wallpaper and confirming files


The following instructions explain how to download wallpaper images using the “Nature” category as an example.

1 Click on the “Download for Mac OS” button on the “Nature” category page to download wallpaper images [nature.sit.hqx] to your desktop.

Notes for Mac OS X10.4 users
If you do not have file expansion software such as Allume Systems’ Stuffit Expander installed in your computer, the downloaded file will not be automatically expanded.
If the file is not automatically expanded, first install expansion software such as Stuffit Expander and try again.

Once the file [nature.sit.hqx] has been downloaded, the file [nature.sit] will be created and automatically expanded.
• When expansion is executed, the folder [101NCWAL] will be created.

      The box above shows the folder “101NCWAL” dragged into the Nikon D40 “DCIM” folder to copy.
    When copying is completed, open the “DCIM” folder to check contents.

  7. Terminate the connection.
    Refer to your camera instruction manual to terminate the connection to the computer.
