Nikon D70 Digital SLR Camera Service Advisory

Thank you for choosing Nikon for your photography needs.

On September 26, 2005, Nikon released a Nikon D70 Service Advisory.  This Service Advisory alerted owners of the D70 that Nikon would service cameras affected by the failure of select electrical components free of charge, regardless of the status of the product warranty.

As we announced on February 28, 2011, the offer of free servicing to replace the failed electronic component in the following cameras expired on February 29, 2012.  Requests to address this issue received on or after March 1, 2012 will be handled in accordance with standard Nikon repair policies.

The offer of free service expired on 29 February 2012.

[ UPDATES TO SERVICE ADVISORY - 28 February 2011 ]

The following Service Advisory alerted owners of the Nikon D70 Digital SLR camera that Nikon would service the affected cameras free of charge regardless of the warranty status of the product. However, please be aware that the term for this offer will expire on 29 February 2012. Services required to address this issue after the offer expires will be handled in accordance with standard Nikon repair policies.

Please contact your nearest authorised Nikon Service Centre(s) as soon as possible to have your camera inspected and serviced within the offer period.

It has come to our attention that an electronic component related to exposure control in some Nikon D70 Digital SLR cameras may, on rare occasions fail.

Should you experience this problem with your D70 camera, Nikon will replace the affected component free of charge even if the warranty of your camera has already expired. Please see the following for more details.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you may have suffered because of this problem.

[ Indications ]

  1. The memory card access lamp blinks continuously and camera operations are locked.
    (When a CompactFlash memory card is inserted.)
  2. The camera will not turn on despite the battery indicator showing a fully charged battery.
    (When a CompactFlash memory card is not inserted.)

In addition to repairing this problem free of charge, Nikon will also reimburse the cost of repairs to those owners who have previously paid to have this problem corrected.
