The AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED is a high performance ultra-wide-angle zoom lens which can capture an overwhelmingly wide view, and it is a perfect match for the high resolving power of the D850. The maximum aperture of f/2.8 can be used throughout the entire zoom range, which allows high shutter speeds to be used, ensuring minimal camera shake. (Report by Katsunori Saito).
D850/ AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED/ FL: 14mm/ Aperture-priority Auto (f/14, 3sec, EV -0,3)/ ISO 200/ WB: Cool-white fluorescent
The detailed forms of the cluster of high-rise buildings and the Ferris wheel in an amusement park and such are brilliant reproduced. This lens has a top-class depictive power among ultra-wide-angle lenses, and provides excellent depiction and proper resolution at the periphery edges, at the wide-angle end of 14mm.
D850/ AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED/ FL: 24mm/ Aperture-priority Auto (f/16, 13sec)/ ISO 64/ WB: Cool-white fluorescent
A nightscape shot of a cluster of high-rise buildings, taken at the 24mm telephoto end. Distortion aberrations are properly suppressed, due the use of aspherical lens elements. There are no unnatural distortions, and lines are depicted as they should be, straight. This lens is favoured for its faithful depictions.
The AF-S NIKKOR 14-24mm f/2.8G ED is a popular lens that has been on sale for more than 10 years now. Although wide-angle lenses have been known to be susceptible to ghosting and flaring under backlit and semi-backlit conditions, which adversely affects images, this lens has a Nano Crystal Coat that keeps ghosting and flaring to an absolute minimum.
As can be seen in the sample photos, the depictive power of the 14mm wide-angle end is so superior that you would hardly think it was a zoom lens. The 24mm telephoto end also properly resolves right to the periphery edges in the same manner as the 14mm. This is truly an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens that produces high image quality, and remains at the top level even up to today.
The lens body has been made compact, while the weight balances perfectly when attached to the D850. This allows you to actively move around when performing handheld shooting, particularly for landscape and street photography. Moreover, being able to use the maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the entire zoom range is also one of the appealing aspects of this lens. Even for scenes where the lighting is insufficient, such as when shooting in the evening, nightscapes, or indoors, by using this lens in combination with the D850, which performs strongly even with high ISO sensitivities, you can shoot with minimal camera shake even when shooting handheld.
However, because the front end of the lens protrudes from its body, take care not to get up too close to your subject, otherwise the lens surface might come into contact with it. Despite that, this is a highly recommended ultra-wide-angle zoom lens which can sufficiently draw out the high resolving power of the D850.
