One common dilemma that most people face when travelling is choosing between high quality photography equipment and mobility. The AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR solves this problem by marrying spectacular performance with a lightweight lens body, making it the ideal travel lens for the photographer who is always on the go. D7500/ AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR/ FL: 300mm (equivalent to 450mm in FX/35mm format)/ Aperture-priority Auto (f/5.6, 1/250 sec, EV-1.0)/ ISO 100/ WB: Auto
I used the 300mm end of the lens (450mm equivalent on a FX body) to selectively frame part of the highway and mountains in my image. Despite shooting at such a long focal length, my images remain sharp thanks to the Vibration Reduction feature, which provides an effect equivalent to a shutter speed 4.0 stops faster. At the same time, the AF-P AF motor provides a much faster and smoother autofocus experience.
D7500/ AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR/ FL: 70mm (equivalent to 105mm in FX/35mm format)/ Aperture-priority Auto (f/8, 1/800 sec, EV-0.3)/ ISO 100/ WB: Auto
For a long time there has been a common misconception about travel lenses, that a lighter lens meant compromising image quality. This is definitely not the case for the AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR, as it delivers stunning image quality while remaining only 415g light. In this photo, we can see that the details in the image have been reproduced in the highest details, such that even the individual strands of hair on the model are clearly visible.
Compared to its predecessors, the AF-P DX NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED VR not only sees improvements in terms of image quality, but in other aspects as well. AF speed and accuracy is improved as well, which increases the success rate of getting a great shot of fast moving subjects, such as during a motorcycle race. The newly improved AF-P autofocus motor enabled me to focus smoothly and silently on my subjects when shooting video.
Weighing in at only 415g, this version of the NIKKOR 70-300mm line-up is much lighter than its predecessors, and is definitely my lens of choice when it comes to picking a travel lens. With this lens, you can be sure of getting incredible shots on your travels while remaining mobile and not burdened by heavy equipment. I would highly recommend this lens for those who are looking for a telephoto zoom lens to go with their lightweight D7500 body.
