The AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR boasts the highest level of depiction performance among the normal zoom lenses in the NIKKOR lens series. When used with the D750, it lets you obtain the ultimate in high image quality. In this article, let’s take a closer look at the amazing expressive capabilities of the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR. (Photo and report by Yuki Mizota)
FL: 24mm / Manual exposure(f/16, 1/640 sec)/ ISO 400 / WB: Direct sunlight
To create starbursts, I narrowed the aperture to f/16. Although there was backlight in the scene, there was minimal flaring or ghosting. The extremely high-speed AF is also great for capturing moments in street photography.
FL: 70mm / Manual exposure (f/3.5, 1/10 sec)/ ISO 400 / WB: Auto 2
I used a slow shutter speed of 1/10 second, and the VR effect enabled me to shoot without camera shake. The resolution in the centre of the image was extremely high, and there was no visible colour bleeding or washing out of the image in the peripheral areas. The creamy bokeh effect and sharp depiction are what makes this lens so appealing.
The AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR is a high-performance, fast, normal zoom lens equipped with a Vibration Reduction (VR) system that realises the ultimate in image quality and stunning bokeh.
It is also the first NIKKOR lens to employ an aspherical Extra-low Dispersion (ED) lens element, which single-handedly suppresses various aberrations such as chromatic aberrations and spherical aberrations. The lens properly resolves even the peripheral areas of the image without washout, and boasts superb depiction performance and clarity. It has a bright maximum aperture of f/2.8, and you can enjoy a creamy, naturally-gradated bokeh quality across the entire zoom range.
The biggest difference with its predecessor, the AF-S NIKKOR 24-70mm f/2.8G ED, is the addition of the VR feature. The effectiveness of the VR system is tremendous, providing an effect equivalent to 4 shutter speed stops. This lets you confidently perform handheld shooting even in low-light scenes, such as street photography at night, and indoor photography. Furthermore, the Nano Crystal Coat suppresses flaring and ghosting even in scenes that are backlit.
When used in combination with the D750, it comfortably fits in your hands for viewfinder shooting. Because the standard zoom covers a wide focal length range, from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end, it is suitable for a range of photography genres, including street photography, weddings, landscapes, and advertising. This lens is recommended for those who want to enjoy the best image quality that NIKKOR lenses can offer.
