The AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED boasts the widest angle of all the NIKKOR lenses for use with DX-format cameras. This lens is a great match for the compact, lightweight D5600, and in this article, we take a look at its characteristics and depictive power. (Photo and report by Noboru Sonehara)
FL: 10mm(equivalent to 15mm in FX/35mm format)/ Aperture-priority Auto(f/8, 1/125 sec, EV+0.7)/ ISO 100/ WB: Auto 1
Shooting at 10mm focal length allows you to enjoy a stunning wide angle-of-view, ideal for capturing vast landscapes and majestic architecture, as well as indoor shots in places where space constraints limit your ability to move back to include more in the frame. If you stop down the aperture to around f/8, you will be able to achieve sharp depictions all the way to the corners of the image.
FL: 24mm(equivalent to 36mm in FX/35mm format)/ Aperture-priority Auto(f/4.5, 1/320 sec)/ ISO 100/ WB: Auto 1
Shooting with the lens’ 24mm telephoto end provides an angle-of-view that is close to that of human vision. There is minimal distortion and this angle-of-view looks natural, which makes the lens handy for taking casual snapshots of all sorts of subjects.
The AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED is an ultra-wide-angle NIKKOR lens for use with DX-format cameras. Shooting natural landscapes and architecure at the 10mm wide-angle end (equivalent to 15mm in FX/35mm format) provides a satisfying degree of sharpness, especially when using a smaller aperture such as f/8. The lens also performs excellently at the 24mm telephoto end (equivalent to 36mm in FX/35mm format), which has little distortion, convenient for photographing food or portraits. You can easily and casually be photographing things around you at 24mm at one moment, and then zoom out to 10mm for dynamic shots the next moment, if the right scene comes by.
This lens has a very short minimum shooting distance at 0.24m (with AF), which presents you with yet another fun way using the lens: Getting up close to the subject for close-up wide-angle shots. Its petite size further complements the compact, lightweight D5600.
If you are a DX-format shooter hoping to shoot sweeping landscapes in one frame, this is certainly one lens that you should consider.
