This firmware update for the Nikon Z 7 and Z 6:
- Adds Eye-Detection autofocus (AF) for still-image shooting
- Improves AF performance in low-light situations
- Adds auto-exposure (AE) tracking in continuous high-speed (extended) mode
Getting the eyes sharply in focus is crucial to portrait photography, but hard to achieve in practice. Eye-Detection AF automatically detects and focuses on human eyes in the auto-area AF (AF-S, AF-C) modes, helping to ensure that your focus is always on point even during a fast-paced photoshoot.

Capture Eye-catching Moments with the Eye-Detection AF
Achieving fast focus when shooting stills and videos in dark or dimly-lit locations is made easier with this update, which improves the low-light AF detection range down to -2 EV on the Nikon Z 7, and down to -3.5 EV on the Z 6. Additionally, the Z 6 can autofocus in conditions as dark as -6 EV in Low-light AF mode. All the easier to capture the perfect shot regardless of whether you are shooting in poor lighting indoors or outside in the dark.
In high-speed continuous shooting mode, the Nikon Z 7 and Z 6 are capable of shooting speeds of up to 9 fps (Z 7) and 12 fps (Z 6). This update adds support for AE tracking for the continuous high-speed extended shooting mode, thus ensuring that every image is delivered in focus and with optimal exposure. Perfect for panning shots and other scenes where the background brightness frequently changes.UPDATE NOW
